About the Great Gascony Blue
The Great Gascony Blue is a scent hound from Gascony in south-west France, with a distinctive blue-mottled coat and tan markings. It is a large, noble-looking hound with a deep, musical voice, bred to hunt in packs over long distances. Though gentle at home, it is mainly a hunter's dog and rare elsewhere.
Temperament
A gentle, rather dignified hound that is friendly with other dogs. It is easily distracted by scent, has a loud bay and may be slow to respond to commands. Calm, patient training suits it.
Exercise
Needs long daily walks and runs in safe, enclosed areas. It has a lot of stamina and is happiest when it can cover ground at its own pace.
Grooming
A weekly brush removes dead hair from the fine, mottled coat. Wipe the face and muzzle if it gets muddy.
Care & wellbeing
The big pendant ears need to be kept dry. Its nose will lead it astray, so tall fences and a collar tag matter.
