Petopedia

Privacy policy

Last updated 3 October 2026

Petopedia helps you look after your pets. This page explains what information we collect, why, who helps us process it and the choices you have. If you have a question, email privacy@petopedia.co.

What we collect

Your account. When you create an account we store your name, email address and a securely hashed version of your password. We never store your password itself.

Your pets and their records. The details you add about your pets — such as name, species, breed, date of birth and weight — and the entries you log, such as meals, water, weight, walks, rest, toilet trips, reminders and notes.

Devices. If you connect a Petopedia device, the readings it sends (for example bowl and platform weights) and its health information (battery, Wi-Fi strength, firmware and error codes).

Waitlist. If you join a waitlist, your email address and which product you're interested in.

Usage and performance. Aggregated, anonymous statistics about how pages are used and how quickly they load, so we can improve the site.

How we use it

  • To run your account and show your pets' history, trends and reminders.
  • To work out each pet's usual range and tell you when something changes. This compares your pet with their own history; it is not a diagnosis.
  • To email you about a product you joined the waitlist for, and nothing else.
  • To keep the service secure and working, and to understand which pages are useful.
  • To show advertising that helps keep the free tools free (see below).

We don't sell your personal information. Only you can see your pets and their records.

Cookies and similar technologies

We keep cookies to a minimum:

  • Sign-in session — keeps you signed in. Essential; set only when you sign in.
  • Time zone preference (tz) — remembers your time zone so your pet's days line up with yours. Kept for up to a year.
  • Advertising cookies — set by Google if you agree to them, to show and measure ads.

Our analytics and performance measurement (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights) do not use cookies.

Advertising

Some public pages show ads provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Where the law requires it, such as in the UK and EU, we ask for your consent before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time.

You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and manage ad personalisation, at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and adssettings.google.com. Ads are not shown inside your signed-in pet records.

Who processes data for us

  • Vercel — hosts the website and provides anonymous analytics and performance measurement.
  • Neon — hosts our database, where accounts, pets and records are stored.
  • Google — provides advertising on public pages.

These providers may process data outside the UK, under appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and pet records for as long as you have an account. If you delete a pet, its profile and its entire history are deleted. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and everything linked to it.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and all of its data. Email privacy@petopedia.co and we'll respond within one month. If you're in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

Petopedia accounts are intended for adults. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll let account holders know. See also our photo credits.
