About the Valencian Terrier

The Valencian Terrier, or Gos Rater Valencia, is a small to medium-sized ratting dog from the Valencia region of Spain, used on farms to control rats. It is lean and agile with a short coat and a typically tricolour or bicolour pattern. It is provisionally recognised and information about it is limited.

Temperament

Probably lively, alert and quick, as is typical of ratting terriers. Likely affectionate with family and keen on play. Early socialisation and consistent, reward-based training are sensible.

Exercise

Needs daily active exercise and play, such as walks and fetch games. It is agile and may chase small animals.

Grooming

The short coat needs a weekly brush, with extra attention in the moult.

Care & wellbeing

Keep weight lean and teeth clean. Provide a secure garden, as terriers are good diggers and escape artists.

An occasional brush is plenty. Check ears, teeth and nails as part of the routine.

Usually, yes — as long as they get enough daily exercise and time outdoors.
