About the Romagna Water Dog
The Romagna Water Dog, or Lagotto Romagnolo, comes from Italy's Romagna region, where it began as a water retriever in marshes before being used for truffle hunting. It is a medium-sized, sturdy dog with a dense, curly, woolly coat in off-white, brown or orange tones. It is known for an excellent nose and enjoys digging and scent games.
Temperament
Affectionate, eager to please and attached to its family. Alert and generally friendly, with a lively, curious nature. Enjoys having a job such as scent work.
Exercise
Needs daily exercise of around an hour, plus nose work, retrieving or swimming. Many enjoy digging, so provide a safe outlet.
Grooming
Dense curly coat that does not shed much but mats if neglected. Brush weekly and trim every few months.
Care & wellbeing
Check and clean the ears regularly as hair grows inside them.
