About the French Pointing Dog - Gascogne Type
The French Pointing Dog, Gascogne type, is a large pointer from south-west France, used to hunt game birds. It has a sturdy, strong frame, a short, white coat with brown markings, and long ears. Steady and methodical in the field, it works at a measured pace and is kept mostly by hunters.
Temperament
Gentle, steady and affectionate, usually good with family. It is calm indoors, but keen when working. It is generally sensitive.
Exercise
Needs an hour or two a day, with space to quarter ground and use its nose. A bored Gascogne type may turn to roaming or howling.
Grooming
The short coat is easily kept with a weekly going-over using a rubber mitt. Dry the long ears after wet walks.
Care & wellbeing
This is a working pointer that is happiest with a job, so give it regular scent games or field time. Plan for company during the day, as it dislikes being left alone for long.
