About the Croatian Shepherd Dog
The Croatian Shepherd Dog is a medium-sized herding breed from Croatia, long used by farmers to work and control flocks. It is a lean, agile dog with a dense, slightly wavy, usually black coat, and a tail that is carried low or curved. It remains a working farm dog in its homeland and is rarely seen elsewhere.
Temperament
Intelligent, alert and keen to work, with a close bond to its family. It can be reserved with strangers, and needs early socialisation. Without a job, a bright herding dog may find its own entertainment.
Exercise
Needs substantial daily exercise, ideally at least an hour or two with mental work such as training, scent games or herding-style activities.
Grooming
Dense, slightly wavy coat that needs brushing once or twice a week, more during seasonal shedding.
Care & wellbeing
Herding dogs thrive with purpose, so plan for structured activity.
